The oldest capuchin monastery – an extraordinary workshop place

Convento Santa Maria dei Frati Cappucini is the oldest Swiss capuchin monastery built in 1535 in Bigorio, community of Capriasca. It lays majestic high above the picturesque village of Bigorio (728 masl) with breathtaking views and surrounded by amazing chestnuts woods. This absolutely quiet and natural environment offers the perfect condition for workshops, meditation etc. As a participant you sleep in the former cell of the monastery and find tranquility as much as you need in the beautiful large garden. Director is Fra Roberto; he is not only director, but also a famous painter who designed among other things the way of the cross in Brissago. It leads from the mystical Sacro Monte down to Brissago village. The monastery in Bigorio not offers a unique are of retreat, but also preserves the Ratafià, the famous Ticino distillery. Some of you maybe also call it Nocino although it is not the same. The Capriasca is one of the well-liked places as it offers the rare opportunity to live idyllically in the green and all the same near to the city center of Lugano and to the airport of Agno.
